FUNDING THE BIG WINNER IN THE FINANCIAL CRISIS
The tightening global econimic situation has caused the Federal, and in some cases, the state governments to announce funding programs in an effort to stimulate the economy. This is great news for us trying to improve the world and needing some support to achieve our goals. SUPPORT FOR RURAL HEALTH PROJECTS
The National Rural and Remote Health Infrastructure Program is a competitive grants program that enables eligible organisations and individulas to apply for funding that will assist with the provision of essential health and medical infrastructure, equipment and service planning.
The second round of the NRRHIP will close on 19 December 2008.
So start preparing your application now. Your application will have a better chance of success if you have co-contributions of funding from other sources.

RETRO-FIT BUILDINGS FOR A GREEN FUTURE
The Green Building Fund ($90m over 4 years) aims to reduce the impact of Australia's built environment on green house gas emissions, by reducing the energy consumed in the operation of existing commercial office buildings.
The program will provide grants through two streams of activity.
Stream A targets owners of existing commercial office buildings. It supports retro-fitting and retro-commissioning of these buildings, to reduce base building energy consumption. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 are available, for up to 50% of project costs.
Stream B targets relevant industry associations. It will provide a limited number of grants to develop the knowledge, skills or capability of those involved in the operation of commercial office buildings, to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. Grants of up to $200,000 are available, for up to 50% of project costs.
Round 1 for both streams of the program closes at 5pm local time on 15 January 2009.

SMALL BUSINESS ADVICE TO HELP IN THE CRISIS
The Government has announced a new funding measure of $4 million dollars to provide additional support and advisory services to small business in response to the global financial crisis.
The principal objective of the Small Business Advisory Services (SBAS) program is to maximise the growth potential, prosperity and sustainability of small businesses through enhanced access to information and advice on issues important to sustaining and/or growing small business.
Applicants will only be considered if they are interested in providing business advisory services to small businesses such as:
- mentoring for business
- business planning advice
- assistance accessing legal and accounting services
- advice on government regulation.
The program is currently open for applications and closes on 18 December 2008.

TASMANIA LEADING THE CLIMATE CHANGE MOVEMENT
Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett today launched a new grants program, ClimateConnect, which will support Tasmanian community-based programs that address climate change.
The program will provide a total of $500,000 in grant funding to encourage Tasmanians to think of local projects that deliver clever climate change solutions. Eligible community groups can apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to undertake projects that reduce emissions or conserve energy in their community.
Applications for funding under round one will be accepted until 5pm, Friday 30 January 2009.

RESEARCHERS AND BUSINESS GETTING TOGETHER
The Australian Government has committed $10 million within Enterprise Connect to support the placement of researchers from universities or public research agencies into businesses where it is identified that such a placement would help to develop and implement a new idea with commercial potential.
What does the Researchers in Business offer?
Funding for up to 50 per cent of salary costs, to a maximum of $50,000, will be provided for each placement. Placements can be for a period of up to 12 months. Up to fifty projects will be supported per year.
The program will aim to:
- help break down the cultural divide between business and the research sector (the researcher may be from a university or research agency),
- speed the dissemination of expertise,
- accelerate the adoption of new ideas and technologies,
- increase competitiveness of firms,
- create jobs.
Enterprise Connect is currently inviting proposals from suitable suppliers for the provision of linkage services between research organisations and Enterprise Connect to support the Researchers in Business (RiB) initiative.

BUSINESSES EXPORTING RECIEVE HELP
The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters.
Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including inbound tourism and the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.
The EMDG scheme:
- encourages small and medium sized Australian businesses to develop export markets
- reimburses up to 50 per cent of expenses incurred on eligible export promotion activities, above a $15,000 threshold
- provides up to seven grants to each eligible applicant.
To access the scheme for the first time, businesses need to have spent $15,000 over two years on eligible export marketing expenses.
Applications for the 2007-08 grant year opened on 1 July 2008 and close on 1 December 2008.
