"Designing for Better Health" collaborative competition
The "Designing for Better Health" collaborative competition, aims to find innovative solutions and catalyze a community of changemakers around "nudges"-innovative little pushes-that help people make better decisions regarding their own health and the health of others.
The competition is open to all types of organizations (charitable organizations, private companies, or public entities) from all countries. All entries are considered that:
- Reflect the theme of the competition: Designing for Better Health. Entries will demonstrate innovative solutions around financial transactions for social change.
- Indicate growth beyond the stage of idea, concept, or research. At a minimum, entries should be at the demonstration stage and indicate success. While we support new ideas at every stage and encourage their entry, the judges are only able to evaluate programs that are beyond the conceptual stage, and have demonstrated a proof of impact, even at small scale.
- Are submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
The winners of this Changemakers collaborative competition will be those entries that are innovative, sustainable and have a strong social impact.
Online competition submissions are accepted until April 1, 2008 at 6 pm, U.S. Eastern Standard Time. The Changemakers community votes online to select the three award-winners from the field of finalists but to be in the running for the Early Entry prize, enter by 6:00 p.m. EST, Feb. 18, 2009.
The Changemakers Collaborative Competition winners-the three finalists that receive the most votes- will each receive a cash prize of USD $5000. Education for Sustainability Grants Program
Education for Sustainability Grants Program
The objective of the Education for Sustainability Grants Program is to facilitate changes in community attitudes and behaviour in support of sustainability, through education for sustainability.
Education for Sustainability develops knowledge, skills and values that promote action and behaviour in support of a sustainable future. It aims to equip individuals, organisations and communities to deal effectively with the complex and inter-related environmental, social and economic challenges they encounter in their personal and working lives, in a way that protects the interests of current and future generations.
Education for Sustainability acknowledges the need to use learning approaches that help individuals, organisations and communities to explore sustainability and build skills that enable change, such as critical and systems thinking, mentoring and facilitation, visioning, genuine participation in decision making, action learning and action research, and the formation of partnerships for change.
The Program provides funding for:
- education, awareness raising, behaviour change and capacity building activities that act as a catalyst for change in support of sustainability;
- activities that enhance national coordination of existing education for sustainability programs, policies or institutions; and
- new and innovative approaches in areas of need in education for sustainability at the national level.
