News - New Trial Search and Guarantee

News- Trade Training Centres
As part of the Federal Government's Trade Training Centres Program they recently announced the successful applicants of round one. Round one received 80 applications involving 200 schools seeking a total of M$200. 34 lead schools, operating in a cluster benefiting a total of 96 schools, were successful in receiving a total of M$90 million.

Around a third of the Centres are located in rural or regional areas, and nearly half of these schools have student populations which involve significant percentages of Indigenous students.

A second round of $300 million opened on the 23rd of July and will close in October this year.

Fund Focus - RSL Youth Development Program
This program aims to encourage and support senior school students through their academic, community and sporting pursuits. High achieving Year 10 and 11 students can use the program to assist them through senior school in 2009.

Each grant is worth between $2,600 (for students studying year 11 in 2009) and $5,200 (for students studying year 12 in 2009).

Current Year 10 and current Year 11 students can submit an application for a RSL Youth Development Program grant in the following categories:
  • Academic Achievement (inclusive of arts, drama, dance and media)
  • Sporting Achievement 
  • Community Leadership and Civic Participation
Online applications open April 21 2008 and close at 5pm Tuesday November 11 2008.

Fund Focus - National Youth Week Grants
Queensland young people and community organisations can apply for funds to assist in holding National Youth Week events to be held from 28 March to 5 April, 2009.

The grants are to support events and provide an opportunity for young people and the broader community to celebrate the achievements and contributions of young Queenslanders.

National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. It is an Australian, State, Territory and Local Government initiative. It aims to encourage young people to:
  • share ideas
  • attend live events
  • have their voices heard on issues of concern to them
  • showcase their talents
  • celebrate their contribution to the community
  • take part in competitions, and
  • have fun!
Applications close 4 August, 2008.
