Funding News
In what stands to be Australia's biggest act of philanthropy, property magnate turned iron ore magnate, Clive Palmer has set up a $100 million foundation to support Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara.  The Foundation will support West Australian medical research, and will also go towards intervention and aid to Aboriginies and poor communities in the Pilbara, according to The Age, January 30, 2008.

It is hoped by many that this act of philanthropy from the mining industry may just kick off a revolution in giving in Australia that to date has been lagging behind other developed nations.

Grant Hound
The Grant Hound has this week sniffed out the Community Action Grants under the Climate Action Grants Program, for your interest.

The program aims to increase the capacity of NSW industry, business, government or the community to reduce greenhouse emissions or assist the adaptation to climate change impacts in the waste, transport, forestry, agriculture, industry processes or land use.

This can include education and awareness raising, adaptation planning and implementation of tools.

Funding Tip
If you are a not-for-profit incorporated group that is not presently registered as a charity, it is worth looking into.  By being a registered charity many more funding opportunities are opened up to your group and often these funding opportunities may come with a lot less strings attached.  So it could be worth the extra paperwork for your group.
