The best way to improve your chances of success in securing funding is to be well planned.  Whether you are an individual, business or not-for-profit organisation you need to put in writing your goals and objectives. Out of this will fall your shortfalls in finances, on which you base your search for funding.  This funding goal drives you when you are searching for the right funding program and applying for the grant.  Do not fall into the trap of chasing grants that come along.  There is a lot of funding out there and you need to be strategic about where you put your resources.  So don't waste them on chasing a grant that looks good but is slightly outside your funding need.
